CESI504: BUILDINGS, LEED& ENERGY USE  

CEE429: SUSTAINABILITY IN BUILDING INFRASTRUCTURE

These courses focus on a comprehensive overview of how to plan, design, construct and manage sustainable building infrastructures using the LEED rating system.  Both courses are intended to give students a broad perspective and appreciation of the design and delivery of sustainable buildings in context to social, environmental, and economic sustainability.

CEE307: CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING

This course focuses on the introduction to construction engineering, planning, methods, contracts, and specifications. Engineering economics is discussed to select from alternative projects. Students learn how to schedule manually and by using computer software. Construction equipment and the role of the engineer are discussed in project controls and job safety aspects. The latest trends, such as green construction, is introduced.

CEE439: GREEN BUILDINGS IN THE GLOBAL SOUTH

[Proposed to begin 2022] This transdisciplinary (hybrid, intensive 5-week program) course provides an overview of sustainable energy infrastructure development in Indonesia. Students learn the necessary language skills to survive in Indonesian culture. The class explores sustainable development opportunities in Indonesia, including public transport systems, energy-efficient buildings, and renewable energy systems. The program includes designing and constructing a scaled structure made entirely of bamboo.  In this course, during Week 4-5, students will visit Indonesia’s major cities and the surrounding areas in two islands (such as Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bandung in Java Island; Badung, Denpasar, Nusa Dua, Ubud, and Kuta in Bali Island).

CEE441: CONSTRUCTION CAPSTONE

This course provides a culminating experience for civil engineering students. Student teams design and executes a strategic project for an industry partner.  The proposed project for 2021 includes buildings and solar PVs.
